The M.UK has cancelled the restriction of the rules concerning the use of Smartphone / GPS devices on cars on Road Rallies to take effect from 1 January 2019. [ R.18.6.4 has been deleted in the 2019 Blue Book. R.7.2.3 allows the use of the mobile phones if it is specifically permitted in the S.R's. ]
The M.UK has set up the Technology Working Group to Review the way in which Road Rallies are Timed and the integration with a Standardised form of Results. Meetings were arranged in September 2018.The M.UK has agreed to give some concessions to the Rules and Regulations to allow the running of MiRally events. New methods of collecting time data from Time Controls and being displayed in real time provisional Results onto the Internet are being investigated
The MiRally Timing and Management system is now in use on major regularity rallies in Spain, Brazil and Mexico. It is truly an International system, which is expected to become available in the UK shortly. It is also available for other types of events, such as Navigational Scatters, and small rallies.
As time and staffing resources become less available, this system could enable events to be planned and delivered with reduced effort and less dependence on the coordination of volunteers.

To overcome some concerns from Competitors that their Smartphones may not be suitable for this Application, special, dedicated units have been developed, with the GPS and Mobile phone connectivity, which could become available early next year.
