Rally Trip Meters are expensive and need to installed in the car with a sensor on the wheel or speedo cable.      Since 1 January 2019, the Motorsport UK has permitted the use of Smartphones, provided that they are authorised in the Supplementary Regulations for an event.   As Regularity Rallies only permit the use of Trip meters with distance  readings and no speed or time functions, the search is on to try and find suitable Apps.  It is worth having a look at GPS controlled " Off-road Tripmeter 4X4 ", which has a clear format for Total and Interval distances.

Scrutineering  -   What is the purpose of safety Scrutineering on road rallies ?  The only person who can confirm that the car is safe and roadworthy is the Driver / Owner. It is accepted that the annual MOT Test confirms that the car is roadworthy on the day of that Test.  If the car has a puncture on the next day, the car may be rendered un-roadworthy by fitting an illegal tyre. For the rest of the year covered by the MOT Certificate, it is the responsibility of the Driver.

The only result of the Event Scrutineer's two minute superficial car check is that the Scrutineer and the Organising Team may become liable to contributory negligence for a fault that is something of which they have little or no knowledge or influence.

Is it time for the Driver to take responsibility and certify that the car is roadworthy at the event Signing On ?

Scrutineering for eligibility for Classes defined by the car's age or engine size is relevant.
If the event Classes relate to the Driver and Navigator, the status of the car is irrelevant.
